The AV610 has three output modes for displaying captions: Background image, Scaler, and Decoder. To configure each, navigate to the AV610 web instance, and select the Display module. Then, choose from one of the aforementioned options in the Mode drop-down.
Note
In Background image mode, the AV610 generates a static background image in 1080i60 video. Captions are reformatted from either upstream or iCap to four-row rollup and displayed over the background. Caption appearance is completely configurable: font, size, vertical and horizontal positioning, and text color can all be customized.
If you want to decode upstream captions in Background mode, use the aux input. Video on the master input is ignored.
New background: From here, you can upload a new background image file to replace the existing one displayed. By default, the displayed static background image is the AV610 logo. The supported image file formats are JPEG, PNG or SVG. Note that the image will be resized to fit 1920 horizontal and 1080I vertical, so the image should be at least that size in order to look decent.
Text position: Choose your base row (placement on the screen where the bottom row of the 4-row captions will appear)
Text alignment: Choose the alignment on the screen where the captions will appear (right, center, left). Note: If your language of choice goes from right to left, it is not recommended to choose the Right alignment, since parts of the captions may appear offscreen in this case.
Font: Select your preferred caption font.
New font: Upload your own custom font file that you would like to have as an option for the captions.
Text size: Choose the text size that the captions should be in.
Color: Choose your text color. Note that upstream captions (set from caption file or caption authoring software) can override colors for specific words or phrases.
Scaler
In Scaler mode, upstream video is rescaled to 80% size. Captions are reformatted to two-row rollup and displayed above or below the scaled video. Caption alignment, font, and text color may be customized.
If there is no upstream video, there will be a placeholder green screen displayed by default.
Text position: Select whether captions should appear either above or below the scaled video.
Color: Choose your text color. Note that upstream captions (set from caption file or caption authoring software) can override colors for specific words or phrases.
Decoder
In Decoder mode, captions are displayed over upstream video to mimic the behavior of a consumer caption decoder. Font and text color may be customized, but the size and positioning are taken from upstream authoring.
If there is no upstream video, there will be a placeholder green screen displayed by default.
Font: Select your preferred caption font.
New font: Upload your own custom font file that you would like to have as an option for the captions.
Text size: Choose the text size that the decoded captions should be in. The options are Small, Standard, Large, and Default, with default being whatever size the upstream caption author specified.
Color: Choose the text color for the decoded captions. Note that upstream captions (set from caption file or caption authoring software) can override colors for specific words or phrases.
